GRADUATION PENCIL HOLDER
Celebrating an academic milestone with a 3D-printed pencil holder
JUL 2019 // INDEPENDENT PROJECT (GIFT)
This graduation-cap-shaped pencil holder makes a great gift for matriculating students or their teachers and mentors. The design is open-source and available for download. For a personal touch, matching cards are included, perfectly sized to fit around the center divider of the cup.
I designed, prototyped, and gifted this pencil holder in 2019 to express my thanks to my high school counselor, who guided me through the college application process. I wanted to craft something meaningful that would honor her dedication and the positive impact she had on me and countless other students. She always kept cups of pencils on her desk, ready for her often forgetful visitors. My hope was that each time she reached for a pencil in the future, this holder would serve as a heartfelt reminder of the generations of students whose lives she touched with her patience, care, and thoughtfulness.
DESIGN PROCESS
The prototypes were printed in PLA and Nylon 645 on a Lulzbot Mini. The final was printed in Nylon PA12 with HP Multi-Jet Fusion.
